Enrollment Guide for Postgraduates of Academic Degree
Involved in 2015 National Examination
I. Enrollment Number
Beijing Normal University plans to enroll about 1600 postgraduates of academic degree in 2015. The enrollment numbers of various departments listed in the major directory include the recommended exemption graduates (click here to see the admission plan). The enrollment numbers are for reference only, and there might be subtle adjustments during the admission stage.
The enrollment numbers of various specialized plans are respectively listed. Please find the details in the attachment.
II. Admission Requirements
1. Citizens of the People’s Republic of China.
2. Applicants must support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, be willing to make contributions for the construction of socialist modernization with a good morality and a law-abiding quality.
3. Physical condition of the applicants must conform to the requirement of the Physical Examination Guidance of the Enrollment of Higher Learning Institutions.
4. Education background of the applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(1) Fresh graduates with a nationally accredited Bachelor’s degree.
Applicants possess a nationally accredited undergraduate diploma before September 1st in the admission year. Fresh graduates from regular institutions of higher learning, adult colleges and regular institutions for adult higher education, and graduates-to-be by means of self-study examination and online education are included.
Nationally accredited fresh graduates who are acknowledged by his/her universities/colleges and full-time students who will graduate during June and July in 2015 from top-up colleges, college-upgraded universities and institutions involving “3+2” programs are also included.
(2) Graduates with a nationally accredited Bachelor’s degree.
(3) Applicants who graduate from nationally accredited higher vocational colleges for at least 2 years (from the time of graduation to September 1st, 2015) and then from nationally accredited universities can apply as the undergraduates with the same educational level if he/she could meet the following three requirements: 1) he/she completes all the compulsory courses on campus; 2) he/she publishes at least 2 papers as first author on the academic journals in terms of the specialized field he/she applies; 3) the major he/she applies is the same as or similar to that he/she learns.
(4) Applicants possess a Master’s or Doctoral degree.
(5) Non-fresh postgraduates (professional masters only with degree certificate included) need to ask for the permission of their universities before application and withdraw from previous universities before admission. Postgraduates studying for 2 or more degrees at the same time, whether they are on the same level or not, is not allowed.
In addition to the applicants with a Bachelor’s degree of Adult Education College of the Central Party School, applicants with a Bachelor’s degree of other Party schools are not allowed to apply. The academic certificate acquired from outside China needs to be accredited by the Service Center of the Ministry of Education.
III. Application
(Notice: Applicants should read the admission requirements carefully before application and then apply online after being sure of meeting all requirements. Please fill out the information accurately when apply online. Admission will be denied if applicants do not meet the requirements or cheated. The application qualification will be examined during the admission stage.)
Application includes online application and scene confirmation, each is indispensable. Applicants need to log on CHSI (Link: http://yz.chsi.com.cn) from October 10th to 31st, 2014 to read the instructions, and apply as the Ministry of Education, the provincial enrollment examination institutions, the application spot and the enrollment institutions required. Applicants need to take the Second Generation of Resident Identity Card, the original graduation certificate (fresh graduates need to take valid student IDs) and the online application number and be present to complete scene confirmation.
IV. Entrance Examination
Entrance examination includes preliminary examination and secondary examination.
1. Preliminary Examination
(1) Time: subject to that published by the Ministry of Education. 8:30-11:30 am; 14:00-17:00 pm.
Examination sites will be arranged by confirmation institutions.
(2) Please find the examination subjects in the major directory. The examination will be taken in the form of writing.
The following national examination subjects are given by the Ministry of Education and the syllabus is compiled by the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education. Other subjects are given by Beijing Normal University.
101: Ideological and Political Theory
201: English I
202: Russian
203: Japanese
301: Mathematics I
302: Mathematics II
303: Mathematics III
408: Computer Science Basics.
(3) Please download the admission ticket from CHSI during the designated time.
Applicants attend the examination with the admission ticket and the Second Generation of Resident Identity Card.
2. Secondary Examination
(1) Applicants attaining the minimum passing score that BNU decides will be qualified to take the secondary examination. The examination will be arranged around the middle of March, 2015. The specific time will be announced on our website.
(2) The secondary examination generally includes interview, professional written examination, foreign language listening and oral testing, experimental operation, etc. to further examine the applicants’ basic professional knowledge, the ability to analyze comprehensively, the ability to solve practical problems and the ability to operate.
(3) The way of selective second-tire examination will be adopted. The admission ratio and percentage of the preliminary and secondary examinations should account for will be decided by each division before secondary examination.
(4) Those who need to take undergraduate examinations of main courses and experiment skills include: applicants possessing an equivalent education level, applicants who are fresh adult-college graduates and self-studied and online-educated, applicants who do not possess a Bachelor’s degree upon secondary examination. There will be no less than 2 written examinations.
(5) Applicants fail the secondary examination will be denied admission.
V. Admission
Admission will stick to the principle of admitting the top and well-rounded examinees. Admission list will be decided according to the scores of the preliminary and secondary examinations, the usual performance on study, the achievement on work and ideological and political performance, etc.
Admission includes directional employment and non-directional employment. For the former type, both personnel archives and hukou will not be transferred to BNU and the students must go back to the designated workplace at the time of graduation. For the latter type, the personnel archives must be transferred to BNU and the students can choose whether to transfer hukou to BNU or not. Upon graduation, a two-way selection can be adopted by both graduates and employers in terms of employment.
Full-time applicants with directional employment need to submit the written materials that permit the applicants to apply by their present institutions. Applicants need to handle all the problems resulted from admission in their institutions by themselves. Applicants are accountable for every possibility of not being able to take the secondary examination or not being admitted.
The duration will be 3 years.
Physical examination will be held at the time school starts. Those who fail physical examination will be denied admission.
Applicants will be denied admission when found cheating and the student status will be revoked for those who have registered. Applicants are accountable for the above situation.
VI. Tuition and Reward and Grant System
1. At the first semester of an academic year, all the students need to pay an annual tuition of 8,000 RMB. The tuition needs to be paid for 3 years.
2. A new reward and grant system has been adopted since 2014. Please find the details in Plan of Rewards and Grants for Postgraduates of BNU.
The postgraduates with a Master’s or Doctoral degree cannot apply for the scholarships or grants above.
VII. Accommodation
The new arrivals will live in the student apartment in Universiade Village the first year and move back to campus the second year. Accommodation in Universiade Village will be 2,300 RMB per year for every student and each will receive a 500-yuan allowance. No accommodation will be provided for applicants in Beijing with certain employment.
VIII. International Program and Master-Doctoral Program
1. Since 2007, BNU selects from key disciplines about 150 postgraduates to go abroad, to take doctoral degree or to take joint training each year. Postgraduates with non-directional employment can apply to go abroad to take doctoral degree. For more information, please visit our website.
2. Outstanding students can apply for master-doctoral program in the second year and can proceed to take doctoral degree in the third year if he/she passes the examination.
IX. Others
1. Enrollment information will be published online. Applicants can find all the information about the admission of recommended exemption graduates, admission, preliminary examination score, minimum passing score, secondary examination arrangement and admission list, etc. on the home page of Graduate School of Beijing Normal University (Link: http://graduate.bnu.edu.cn). Please follow instantly.
2. BNU will not organize any auxiliary classes. The admission office will neither provide past examination nor sell reference books.
