School of Systems Science Successfully Held the Tenth Inmates Forum of "Face-to-Face Job Hunting"

On the evening of April 7, 2017, School of Systems Science held the tenth inmates forum in science and technology building B District 608 meeting rooms. Zheng Jinlian, who comes from China and Global Think Tank (CCG) and senior Li Tao, who comes from China Academy of Aerospace Systems Science and Engineering were invited to participate in the forum. Combining with the experience of their own, they introduced how to transfer the school's academic ability to the strength and power of R & D, and the advantages of systems science students in research and academic fields. Li Honggang, the Party branch secretary directly under the School of Systems Science, with Li Xiaomeng, the teacher in charge of student work, and more than 20 classmates and inmates attended the forum. The host was teacher Li Xiaomeng.

Zheng Jinlian graduated from the system theory major from the Department of systems science, Beijing Normal University in 2004 and graduated from the department of philosophy of science and technology in Tsinghua University in 2007. She once worked in the Academy of the Great Wall enterprise strategy, China and the global think tanks (CCG), and is now the director of research and Deputy Secretary General of China and Global Think Tanks.

Li Tao, graduated from Department of Systems Science, School of Management, Beijing Normal University, has earned the Bachelor Degree in Management in 2010. And he got the Master Degree of Engineering when graduated from Beijing Institute of Information Control in 2013. Now he works in China Academy of Aerospace Systems Science and Engineering (the 12th China Aerospace Institute), mainly engaged in the fields of aerospace industry strategic consulting, business management and consulting and other aspects of research work.

First of all, with the beginning of her own educational experience, senior Zheng Jinlian introduced the content and influence of development course and related research of China Think Tank. Taking the recent CCG research project for example, she explained the similarities and differences between academic research and think tank research to the students and pointed out that the category of think tank research is more macro and wide which needs scholars to understand the relevant aspects of the field widely, be sensitive to current political affairs and make constructive suggestions with a focus on social hot issues and difficult issues. Zheng Jinlian suggested those who want to engage in think tank research, to do the project in a thoroughgoing manner, undertake the task proactively, grasp the political sensitivity in the research work, observe and think frequently, mainly to exercise their own learning ability, executive ability, reaction, stress tolerance and the ability to express and call on, etc. At the same time, she stressed that the existence of the think tank is to make policy more scientific and increase social welfare, so the scholars need a certain idealism and social responsibility to maintain a lasting passion for research.

Then, Li Tao introduced the origin and cooperative history between the 12th China Aerospace Institute and the School of Systems Science, focused on the application of systems science theory and practice in the field of China's aerospace exploits, and also she sketched that the construction of think tank has made great contributions to the aerospace economy, system engineering management and technological innovation. Starting from his own project experience, Li Tao also introduced how the complex network, machine learning, data analysis technology used in the laboratory every day are used in the enterprise community and generate market value. In addition, Zheng Jinlian also talked about the advantage of systems science thinking and interdisciplinary in the enterprise development, and encouraged everyone to learn professional knowledge during the school time, especially to grasp the systems science thinking, and other technologies of complex network, data analysis and mathematical modeling.

Besides, Ren Shuang, the 2011 management science undergraduate alumna also participated in the forum. She got her master’s degree in University of Freiburg, economics major in German and now engages in financial analysis in the Microsoft Corp. She felt that enterprise demands have the function of guidance to personal growth in her actual work, and shared with all students that how to transfer the school knowledge into the market demand. She advised that junior fellow students should pay more attention to the knowledge and application of statistical analysis, machine learning aspects when they have the ability to learn more, establish a good habit of active learning and lifelong learning, and integrate the business needs with personal growth to complete a successful transition from the campus to workplace.

Subsequently, the forum entered the interactive link. System science students, particularly the graduate students and doctoral students who are equipped with systematic thinking, the vision on interdisciplinary, the ability of mathematical knowledge and computer application. Our three seniors encouraged students to be more confident in the job hunting, and make more efforts to the accumulation of courses and scientific research, therefore to lay the foundation for our future occupation. At the same time, they advised the students to keep the habit of active learning when working, tap their own potential and talent, work hard, be good at thinking and summing up, and constantly improve themselves.

The conduct of the forum has greatly promoted the communication between the students and seniors already in the workplace. On the one hand, it helps students understand the society and industries directly and make a better career planning of themselves. On the other hand, it makes the alumni already in the job return to campus possible, reuniting with their dear teachers and junior fellows again and making in-depth exchanges. It provides a platform for promoting the communication between the college alumni and the students.
