.Educational Objectives

The undergraduate program in management science adheres to the educational principles of “broadening extension of professional knowledge, deepening foundation and attaching importance to capacity”, and highlights the educational direction of financial engineering. On the basis of comprehensively improving the overall qualities of the students, this program equips them with a preliminary thinking of system science and solid foundation of mathematics, and trains them to be proficiency in computer programming and computing. Students will be familiar with related knowledge and research methods in management, economics and financial engineering, and be skilled in using quantitative analysis methods and tools, such as the equations of mathematical physics, management and scientific decision-making models, econometric analysis methods and computer information technology, to solve practical problems in management, especially in the field of financial engineering. Students of this major can pursue a career in financial institutions, multi-national corporation and government agencies on financial services, management and technical analysis. This program also cultivates graduates for other related disciplines such as management science and engineering, system science, etc.

.Skills Profile

This major takes financial engineering as the main educational direction, with a distinctive characteristics of cross-disciplines. The students are required to master a solid multi-disciplines foundation and theories, with systematic rational thinking and high scientific literacy, and to master the basic skills and capacity in analysis and solving problems in economic management. The student should be equipped with good humanistic qualities and moral qualities, good health and a sound development. The program aims to enable students to:

1. love our motherland, support the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and have good morals and qualities of cooperation and solidarity;

2. believe in and love science, have a good foundation of natural science, master solid and systematical basics of mathematics, physics, computer science, economics and management, and be familiar with the basic methods and skills in natural science and social scientific research;

3. master the basic knowledge and basic analytic methods of financial engineering, can develop and design new financial products and trading tools, and can be engaged in financial risk management, portfolio investment and cash management, as well as financial product pricing research, etc.;

4. master the basic methods of data query and document retrieval; be proficient in using computer language and applications, and have the ability to obtain related information, compile programs and make computations;

5. have a good capability of using English, and can speak English in daily communication; have basic English writing skills, and be able to use English as a tool for learning and working, as well as acquire and deal with English information;

6. develop their languages and writing skills, and strengthen interpersonal communication skills;

7. be sure to participate in the “National Student Physical Health Standard Test, and reach the relevant requirements of it before graduation.

Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, Management, Financial Engineering, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, Applied Statistics, Stochastic Process, Econometrics, Operational Research, Mathematical Physical Methods, Foundation and Application of MATLAB, System Engineering.

V. Main Laboratory and Practical Training

Case Teaching, Financial Experiment, Professional Practice, Thesis, Social Surveys, Scientific Research Training and Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

International civilization

10 credits in required: College Foreign Language 10 credits.  Students who take 1 professional course delivered entirely in English can be exempt from College English courses (2 credits), at most 2 credit.

Classical studies and Cultural Heritage

Mathematical Foundation and Scientific Literacy

Instruction: In the courses of general education, Social Development and Public Responsibility needs to be taken for 6 credits. Students are suggested to take the courses in the 1st -7th semester; Art Appreciation and Aesthetic Experience (2 credits) are expected to be taken in the 3rd- 7th semester; Classical Reading and Culture Heritage (6 credits) are expected to be taken in the 3rd - 7th semester. In the courses of professional education, free optional courses (10 credits) are expected to be taken in the 2nd- 7th semester.

XI. Course-taking Requirements

1. Students are supposed to take courses according to the teaching plan. The total credits required are 155, including 88 credits in courses of general education, and 67 credits in courses of professional education.

2. In the courses of general education, except for the Classical Reading and Cultural Heritage module in which students can freely choose optional courses for at least 6 credits, courses in other modules are all obligatory.

3. “Information, Users and Technology”and “Complexity Thinking” are all obligatory courses.

4. The basic courses in courses of professional education are obligatory, and students must take optional professional courses for at least 20 credits. The courses with are limited optional courses. Students can take any other basic courses, profession-oriented courses and teacher’s professional accomplishment courses in the module of free optional courses for at least 10 credits.

5. This profession requires no minor or second degree. Students can consult the teachers and freely choose according to their own situation.
